Time off and Re-registration for Wellbeing Practitioners
When your re-registration date arrives, one year after your initial registration, you’ll be invited to complete a Declaration. Here you can indicate if you are currently on a leave of absence. As long as you plan to return within 12 months, your registration will not be affected.
If you have recently returned to practice, you can still submit your Declaration even if you took extended time off during the past year. However, if you expect to be out of practice for more than a year, you should apply for a leave of absence. If you are on leave at the time of your Declaration and haven’t informed us yet, please submit your annual Declaration along with a completed leave of absence form.
Alternatively, you can let your registration lapse and reapply when you are ready to return.
Reasons for Time out of Clinical Practice
Extended time away from clinical practice can happen for many reasons, including parental leave, adoption leave, caring responsibilities, illness, bereavement, sabbaticals, non-clinical roles, or practicing outside the UK, its territories, or Ireland.
It also applies if you’re not meeting the minimum practice requirements for your role.
While you’re out of practice, you won’t be expected to complete supervision or CPD. If you need an extended or repeated absence, we can guide you on maintaining registration and staying up to date with practice, supervision, and CPD.
If meeting registration standards becomes challenging and your registration lapses, rejoining is a straightforward process. If you’ve returned to clinical practice, you can apply as usual. If you’re not yet back but plan to return, refer to our Return to Practice Policy for guidance.

Time off and Re-registration Audit
If you are selected for Audit and you have had a period out of practice in the previous 12 months, please explain this within the Additional Information section of the forms.
We don’t expect you complete CPD or supervision when you were out of practice. However, you should be in practice at the time of Audit.
You cannot be selected for Audit during a Leave of Absence, however if we don’t know about your leave and you are invited for Audit whilst you are off, you will be given a new audit date once you have returned to work.
