What is Registration?

At BABCP, we’re proud to keep a register of Wellbeing Practitioners who are committed to maintaining high standards in clinical practice, supervision, and professional development, while following our Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics.

Practitioners must also work within a specific care system that ensures the right care pathways and good clinical governance.

Registrants will be listed on the Wellbeing Practitioner section of the public CBT Register UK & Ireland. This includes PWP, CWP, and EMHP members. Your listing will show your name, region, and BABCP membership number.

BABCP promotes the safe and effective delivery of CBT principles and therapy skills. Wellbeing Practitioners are specially trained to work with people who have common mental health problems such as anxiety disorders and depression, to support them in managing their recovery through CBT based interventions and guided self-help.

Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP), Children’s Wellbeing Practitioner (CWP) and Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) registration is currently for those applicants who have graduated from a British Psychological Society (BPS) Accredited or Higher Education England (HEE) Approved Wellbeing training course or apprenticeship and have gained the relevant assessment and treatment skills under supervision.

To find out if you have completed an appropriate training course please refer to the webpage specific to your registration type.

BABCP ensures the safe and effective use of CBT principles in therapy. Wellbeing Practitioners are trained to support people with anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues, helping them manage their recovery.

Registration for Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners (PWPs), Children’s Wellbeing Practitioners (CWPs), and Education Mental Health Practitioners (EMHPs) is open to those who have completed a British Psychological Society (BPS) Accredited or Higher Education England (HEE) approved training course or apprenticeship, gaining supervised assessment and treatment skills.

NHS England and NHS Improvement require all Wellbeing Practitioners to register with either BABCP or BPS. This Register helps protect the public, employers, and agencies by ensuring practitioners meet national standards and practice safely.

Professional Recognition – Registration formally acknowledges the Wellbeing Practitioner role, aligning it with other healthcare professions. It also provides Continuing Professional Development (CPD) access and supervision to help practitioners stay compliant and maintain model fidelity.

Our Register of Wellbeing Practitioners marks the beginning of exciting new developments to formally recognise those delivering CBT-informed care. Since the inception of IAPT services, we have actively championed Wellbeing Practitioners. Launched for PWPs in July 2021, the register now also includes CWPs and EMHPs as of April 2023, while MHWPs are registered from 30 June 2025.

We offer CPD and run a Low Intensity Practice Special Interest Group. Beyond the register, we support and represent this growing workforce.

Our goal is to build a thriving community across the UK, expanding recognition of these emerging professions that are transforming psychological therapy delivery. By promoting high standards, we ensure effective, competent practice – protecting the public and improving care.
