Reaccreditation requirements
To maintain your Trainer Accreditation, you must meet the criteria below related to the provision of training, training supervision and trainer CPD.
When you sign your Trainer Reaccreditation Declaration, you are confirming that you have met the criteria on this page. Each year you will be declaring in relation to the previous twelve months – you can let us know if you have been out of practice for any of that period. You will be asked to provide evidence of this if you are selected for the Reaccreditation Audit.
Training Supervision
You must receive at least two hours of training support or supervision per year over a number of regular meetings, with the majority coming from qualified CBT therapists.
Training Supervisor credentials
The decision of who supervises your CBT training practice is entirely up to you. However, we will require evidence of your supervisor’s qualifications and expertise to provide support.
While some of your training supervision can come from professionals outside the CBT field, you must demonstrate that these arrangements are suitable to support your CBT training delivery.
At least part of your supervision must come from a qualified CBT therapist, and your Trainer Reference should be provided by either a BABCP accredited therapist or a professional with a postgraduate-level qualification in CBT, meeting the same standards as non-accredited clinical supervisors.
Trainer CPD, evidence and Reflective Statements
Each year, you should complete at least one training-related CPD activity (but not necessarily CBT-specific). This counts as one of your five required CPD activities for Reaccreditation and can be your non-CBT specific activity – just be sure to explain how it relates to your CBT practice in your Reflective Statement.
We recommend completing a Reflective Statement soon after the activity and keeping supporting evidence. You’ll need to provide details from the previous year during any Audit. Reflective Statements can be completed online at any time in the My Account section of the website.
There are many activities you can do to show a sustained commitment to development as a CBT Trainer. They might not necessarily be specifically related to CBT, but we will expect you to demonstrate their relevance to your CBT training practice.
Acceptable training CPD activities
These include –
- attendance at workshops or courses relating to training practice and skills
- attendance at conferences and seminars relating to training practice, for example learning to use presentation skills, presentation aids such as PowerPoint or interactive whiteboards
- involvement in relevant research
- relevant publications by you
- reading relevant books and journals etc.
- involvement with Training Practices SIG
- relevant media involvement.
Variations
- The hours spent developing CBT training services or programmes count once
- The first delivery of any ‘Train the Trainer’ programme can count, but subsequent repeated delivery hours can’t be counted again.
- Delivering CBT training, and having training supervision do not count as CPD
- If the activity is CBT specific, it can also be used as evidence of your practitioner CPD, but if it is specific to training but not CBT, it should only be shown as trainer CPD.
Reaccreditation Declaration dates
You will be awarded your supervisor and/or trainer accreditation on the date this has been approved. You will be invited to make the relevant declarations on the anniversary of your CBP practitioner accreditation.
If you have only recently been awarded supervisor/trainer accreditation when invited to make the declarations, we will accept you are working towards maintaining and meeting the criteria requirements.
