Criteria for maintaining EBPT Accreditation
Once you have been awarded CBP Accreditation, you are required to meet our ongoing standards with regard to CPD, supervision and practice. We ensure that you have met these standards via an Audit process.
You will be invited to submit a First Accreditation Audit (FAA) after 12 months of practice from the date you were awarded CBP Accreditation. This is a requirement of all accredited practitioners after the award of accreditation has been made.
After you have submitted your First Accreditation Audit you may be selected for a Reaccreditation Audit in the future to ensure you continue to meet these standards. These audits select accredited members who have submitted their Declarations. The selection process audits a percentage of the CBT Register to uphold the integrity of our standards.
If you hold Supervisor and/or Trainer Accreditation, you will need to demonstrate you have met Supervisor/Trainer audit requirements in addition to CBP audit requirements. You can find more information here [link to relevant sections].
For members returning to practice through our ‘Return to Practice’ process, an audit is conducted after 12 months.
If you do not meet the ongoing standards for Accreditation, your accreditation will be reviewed, which will be reflected on the CBT Register UK and Ireland
Audit Criteria
To meet the requirements for FAA or Reaccreditation Audit you must:
- adhere to our Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics
- be supervised by an appropriate supervisor (please see Supervisor’s Credentials) who will submit a Supervisor’s Report.
- show 12 months of supervised CBT practice
- provide evidence of and Reflective Statements on five pieces of CBT Continuing Professional Development including at least six hours of CBT skills workshops, as described in CPD Guidance. You can count CPD completed between applying for and receiving your Accreditation award. Include a note with the application explaining this.
- make all the required Declarations.
- keep up to date with your current membership fees, due on the anniversary of the date you became a member.
- keep up to date with your annual accreditation maintenance fee. This is due every year on the anniversary of your accreditation, regardless of any extensions. You can check this fee in the Annual Fees section. There is no separate submission fee for your FAA.
The Audit Process
If you are chosen, you will be notified after which, you’ll have six weeks to provide the required documents. If we don’t receive them, or you don’t reach out to discuss any issues, you will fail the audit.
We take accuracy seriously. Any evidence of inaccurate declarations or false statements will result in immediate accreditation termination and we may consider this a breach of our Standards and refer to our complaints procedure.
At the time of the Audit, you must be in practice. If you’ve taken time off in the past 12 months, please contact us to discuss how this will impact the requirements of your audit.
Evidence Required for Audit
Clinical Supervision Log
You need to provide a record of your supervision for the past 12 months. To make the process easier, we recommend recording each supervision session as it happens.
As part of your application, you will be asked to provide contact details for your current CBT Clinical Supervisor. They must be a BABCP accredited CBT therapist or meet our Supervisor Credentials. They will be sent a link to complete a supervisor report which will outline the following information:
- Confirmation of their suitability as a CBT supervisor
- Confirmation of your supervision log and current practice
- Live supervision provision (at least 2 episodes in most recent 12 months of supervision)
- Method and content of supervision
- Confirmation of your competence and understanding of the therapeutic relationship
- Confirmation of your safe and effective practice
If your current supervision arrangements have been in place for less than six months, or do not adequately outline the above information, you must also provide a Supervisor Report from your previous Supervisor (this must be drawn from your most recent 12 months of practice).
CPD Reflective Statements and Evidence
As part of your application, you will be asked to provide details and evidence of five CPD activities from the last 12 months – with a minimum of six hours of skills development included within these. You may have recorded these already within the ‘MyCPD’ area of your online account. For more information on suitable CPD activities, see here. Information on the types of evidence we accept is listed here.
Audit Assessment and Outcomes
If we need additional information, we may contact you or others who have provided information for your Audit. You must provide this information within the time frame you are given. You will receive an email notification once your Audit has been reviewed, letting you know if it has been successful.
If all requirements are not met, we may impose a condition on your Reaccreditation. This could include submitting additional information and evidence, such as an updated Clinical Supervision Log or CPD reflective statements. In some instances, you may be subject to a further audit to ensure that standards continue to be met. You must comply with any conditions imposed
If your Audit submission does not meet our expected standards, this will constitute a failed audit and your accreditation will be removed and conditions will be placed on your record should you wish to reapply for accreditation in the future.
If you disagree with the decision, you have the right to appeal within 28 days from the date the outcome was communicated. To appeal, please see our Appeals Process.
You will be invited to submit your full accreditation application between 12-24 months after receiving your Provisional Accreditation. If you do not make your application in this time, or contact us to discuss any delay, then your Provisional Accreditation may be lapsed.
To apply you must:
- have been awarded Provisional Accreditation
- be currently practising and accountable as an Evidence Based Parent Training Practitioner
- demonstrate ongoing Continuing Professional Development
- have ongoing EBPT Clinical Supervision
- have completed an additional two groups and four individual cases (two cases from a group and two not from a group)

CPD and Reflective Statements
You are expected to give evidence of five EBPT CPD activities per year, drawn from across the range of learning and development activities. These will have been completed in the 12-24 months since you were awarded Provisional Accreditation. One of these may be a non-EBPT specific activity provided that you can justify on your Reflective Statement how it is appropriate to your practice.
Within these five activities, you are required to include at least six hours of EBPT skills workshop(s) per year and complete a Reflective Statement for each of these. This can be one workshop of six hours, or a number of shorter ones that total six hours, e.g. 2 x three hour workshops. Please consult the guidance of suitable CPD Activities below.
Reflective Statements are best completed soon after undertaking each activity. You need to complete a minimum of five a year, so if you apply for Full EBPT Accreditation 24 months after you were awarded Provisional, you will need to submit 10 reflective statements. Please consult the guidance and use the form below.

Ongoing requirements for EBPT accreditation (standard EBPT and grandparenting)
If you are in practice outside the UK or Ireland, see the information here.
EBPT Clinical Practice Minimum Caseloads
EBPT includes a diverse range of therapies based on behavioural and cognitive theories and social learning theory.
To be eligible for accreditation with BABCP through either the EBPT or the EBPT GP route, and to meet with EBPT ongoing accreditation requirements, you must be continuing to actively provide EBPT as your main (or one of your main) therapeutic models in clinical practice.
For Reaccreditation, there is no specific requirement for a minimum number of clinical hours. However, the minimum caseload for maintaining EBPT Accreditation is the provision of two EBPT clinical contacts or equivalent per week. Delivery must be via live interventions e.g. telephone, video or face to face.
EBPT clinical practice should include delivery of the following:
It is expected that accredited EBPT practitioners will have conducted a minimum of two group and 4 individual cases (2 case from a group and two cases that are not part of a group) over the course of 2 year period. For all individual cases, work must have been carried out with both Parent and Child. Each client should have been seen from assessment to completion.
Time off
EBPT Accredited Practitioners are expected to submit their Full Accreditation Application 12-24 months after their Provisional EBPT Accreditation award. You should show 12-24 months of supervised practice – these don’t have to be consecutive months if you have had a break in practice.
- You can submit up to four weeks after your Full Accreditation date without an extension.
- If there is a three month or less delay in you being able to submit, you can email us at accreditation@babcp.com to request an extension, explaining the reason and how long you think you will need. You do not need to complete the extension request form. You can only request one extension by email
- If you have a break in practice of more than three months or you are not able to meet our Accreditation Standards, the extension request must be accompanied by a completed extension request form. Please briefly explain the reason and how long you think you will need.
EBPT Return to Practice
If you have previously held EBPT Accreditation with BABCP and you wish to return to the CBT Register UK and Ireland as an Accredited EBPT Practitioner please follow the guidance for Return to Practice for CBT Practitioners and email evidencebasedparenting@babcp.com for support with your application.
