Evidence-Based Parent Trainer Accreditation
EBPT practitioners have core clinical skills and theoretical knowledge with a specialism in parenting training interventions for behavioural difficulties including conduct disorder for three to ten year olds. They work with both children and their parents using NICE recommended evidence based individual and group approaches.
Evidence based parent training interventions are based on cognitive social learning theory and also draw on attachment theory, the parent-child relationship and parenting styles. Training in assessing and understanding behavioural difficulties in children, involving parents/carers in interventions, evidence-based parent group techniques and evidence-based individual parent training methods is supported by the CYP IAPT (Children and Young Peoples Improving Access to Psychological Therapy) programme.

First accreditation audit and reaccreditation audit
Once you have been awarded EBPT Accreditation, you are required to meet our ongoing standards with regard to CPD, supervision and practice. We ensure that you have met these standards via an Audit process.
You will be invited to submit a First Accreditation Audit (FAA) after 12 months of practice from the date you were awarded EBPT Accreditation. This is a requirement of all accredited practitioners after the award of accreditation has been made.
As an accredited EBPT practitioner you must demonstrate your ongoing commitment to professional excellence through our annual Reaccreditation process. This process involves completing an online Declaration that confirms you’re meeting the essential requirements set by BABCP, including EBPT practice, supervision, continuing professional development (CPD), and adhering to our Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics.
To ensure the highest standards of practice, we carry out periodic Reaccreditation Audits where we may request evidence of your professional development activities.

Audit requirements
To apply you must:
- have been awarded initial Accreditation. We require a first accreditation audit 12 months after your initial award date.
- be currently practising and accountable as an Evidence Based Parent Training Practitioner- this means you should be carrying out a minimum of 2 EBPT clinical contacts per week. This should include a minimum of 1 Evidence Based Parenting group plus a minimum of 2 individual cases per year.
- demonstrate ongoing Continuing Professional Development. Please see CPD section below for further details.
- have ongoing EBPT Clinical Supervision. This means a minimum of 1.5 hours of EBPT per month. You will be required to evidence this by submitting a record of your clinical supervisions spanning 12 months and a report from your clinical supervisor. The supervisor report is an online form that will be sent to your supervisor when you submit their details at the point of audit.
- have an appropriate EBPT clinical supervisor. A Clinical Supervisor for EBPT registrants applying for accreditation/reaccreditation must be a BABCP Accredited EBPT Practitioner, or sufficiently qualified and experienced in EBPT to be able to reliably comment on the supervisee’s current EBPT practice. Supervisors must also be currently practicing EBPT.
It is good practice for your supervisor to observe ‘live’ and feedback on your work – either by ‘sitting in’ on sessions or reviewing recordings. This must take place regularly, and at least twice per year.

Annual CPD requirements
As a requirement of ongoing EBPT accreditation you must complete a minimum of 5 CPD activities and a reflective statement for each. Within these 5 CPD activities you must include a minimum of 6 hours EBPT skills development.
- The skills training may be drawn from one workshop, or several shorter ones to make up the six hours. Skills hours must be facilitated by qualified and experienced EBPT trainers, although it is not essential that the workshops are provided by BABCP.
- We accept any EBPT relevant BABCP webinars in the members area of our website as EBPT skills workshops. Please log into your account to access these. Online EBPT workshops provided by other organisations will also be accepted if there is a skills element.
- For webinars and reading books and articles, you can provide the Reflective Statement alone as evidence
- One of your five activities each year can be non-EBPT specific. However, this cannot be counted as skills workshop. Workshops and other CPD on EBPT supervision will be regarded as non-EBPT specific as they don’t relate to clinical practice.
- When applying for First Accreditation Audit, you can count CPD completed between applying for and receiving your Practitioner award. Just put a note with the application explaining that.
- Please consult the guidance of suitable CPD Activities listed here: Acceptable CPD Activities
