As an accredited practitioner, supervisor, or trainer, you must demonstrate your ongoing commitment to professional excellence through our annual Reaccreditation process. This process involves completing an online Declaration that confirms you’re meeting the essential requirements set by BABCP, including CBT practice, supervision, continuing professional development (CPD), and adhering to our Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics.
To ensure the highest standards of practice, we carry out periodic Reaccreditation Audits where we may request evidence of your professional development activities.
Please go to the links from the menu on this page to ensure your CBT practice, clinical supervision, and CPD activities align with our professional standards.
Criteria:
- You must either be in current CBT practice when you make your Declaration, or returning to CBT practice within 12 months of your Declaration.
- You must make the Declaration even if you have had time out of practice in the preceding year.
- You must be up to date with your BABCP membership fees and have paid your annual Accreditation fee. This is due on the same date each year. Please check our Accreditation Fees page.
- You must have adequate, current and ongoing professional indemnity insurance for your practice.
When am I due to reaccredit?
For most practitioners, your reaccreditation declaration will be due on the same date every year on the anniversary of your Accreditation.
The exceptions to this are:
- if your accreditation lapses, and you have been re-joined the Register after using the Return to Practice application, you will reaccredit on the date you were granted the Return to Practice
- if you have Supervisor and/or Trainer Accreditation – you will make the Declarations for all your accreditations on the anniversary of the most recent accreditation
To check your reaccreditation date, please log in to the members’ area.
Annual Reaccreditation process
You will be expected to reaccredit annually and will be invited to complete an annual declaration alongside useful links to information about Time Off and Breaks in Practice.
It is your responsibility to meet your reaccreditation date and keep your contact details current. If you haven’t received your invitation by your due date or need to update your contact information, please email accreditation.admin@babcp.com
What you need to declare
You will be asked to confirm the following:
- That you are in current CBT practice, or that you are out of practice for one year or less
- That you follow our Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics
- That you have fulfilled the required standards of CBT supervision and CPD
- That you declare any criminal or disciplinary cases against you
- If you’re not currently practicing, there’s a section on the form where you can indicate this.
Members with Supervisor and/or Trainer and dual AREBT accreditations will also confirm that they are meeting the requirements for those awards.
Reaccreditation challenges
If you’re approaching your Reaccreditation Declaration date and anticipate difficulties meeting supervision or Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements, please contact us.
Proactive communication is key to maintaining your professional standing.
Consequences of missing your Declaration or payment
Your annual Declaration, as well as payment of your Membership and Accreditation Maintenance fees are critical to maintaining your accreditation. If you fail to make these within 28 days of our final reminder, your accreditation will lapse, and you’ll be removed from the Register.
Also, any evidence of inaccurate declarations or false statements will result in immediate accreditation termination and we may consider this a breach of our Standards and refer to our complaints procedure.
Reaccreditation confirmation
We don’t issue Reaccreditation Certificates – your accredited status will be confirmed on the CBT Register.
If you want to have written confirmation of your accredited status, we can issue an electronic letter of good standing. There is currently a fee of £10 for this.
