Focus areas
Highlighting best practice and research
Outcome based research will be collated and published to BABCP members. Training will be offered and made available in a variety of formats. Current research shows that therapists frequently approach male and female clients in the same way, despite men more often responding better to direct, goal-focused strategies (Barry et al., 2021).
Identify and help address gaps in the evidence base
This group will endeavour to identify and support research that seeks to find ways to improve access and outcomes of men that require cognitive behavioural therapy. We as a group will create structures to assist with the production and promotion of relevant research.
Making recommendations on a practitioner and a service level
While protecting the principles of individuality and avoiding prejudice we will provide guidance as to how men as a group may have different needs. We aim to make CBT services in the UK more acceptable and efficacious for men. We will work with BABCP on producing and updating relevant guides.
