What is Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)?
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), developed by Dr. Marsha Linehan, evolved from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to support individuals with complex and challenging mental health needs, including those with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD).
DBT helps individuals change their responses to distressing situations, equipping them to cope more effectively without resorting to dangerous behaviours. By addressing thoughts, emotions, and coping strategies, DBT enables participants to better manage emotional pain and develop healthier ways of thinking.
The therapy combines group and individual sessions, focusing on skills such as mindfulness, acceptance, and balancing change with self-compassion, providing practical tools for responding to life’s challenges.
