Professor Lucia Valmaggia is Professor of Clinical Psychology at King’s College London and Honorary Consultant Clinical Psychologist at South London and Maudsley NHS Trust, whose training began in the Netherlands.
She played a key role in obtaining funding to set up the internationally-recognised Outreach and Support in South
London Service (OASIS), a community service for young people at ultra-high risk of developing psychosis, and one of the first of its kind in the world to use CBT for young people at risk of developing psychosis. She also set up the first early detection service in the world in a prison setting, with results showing the need for early detection and early intervention service in prison. The London Early detection And Prevention service in prison (LEAP) was subsequently established.
Her current clinical work includes dedicating time to provide Virtual Reality assisted CBT (VR-CBT) to young people with a forensic history, while research has had a wide impact and is cited in NICE guidelines.
