Fellows – Philip Kinsella

Philip Kinsella has contributed extensively to the field of psychological medicine regarding medically unexplained conditions, and neurological conditions, as well as working with people experiencing complex anxiety and trauma related conditions. He has initiated new CBT services, working with people who have long term health conditions and complex needs.

Philip has contributed to the ongoing development and pursuit of enhancing CBT by writing in the area of obesity, unexplained symptoms, and on understanding CBT for non-specialists among others. He has also contributed to the research field of CBT with a number of published research articles, particularly in the field of Psychological Medicine. He has specifically developed his expertise in working with conditions such as Tourette’s and non-epileptic attack disorder.

He was one of the leaders of the only part-time High Intensity CBT programme when IAPT was first set up, which developed into a full time option, and remains a BABCP accredited programme. He has contributed to training new therapists, as well as designing and delivering training for clinical supervisors in CBT, including extensive input from experts by experience.

Philip is a founding member of the BABCP Long Term Conditions Special interest Group, and has innovated in developing the Long term conditions course leads’ group, and the reflective practice discussion group which meets regularly to discuss challenges, learning, and good practice in working with long term conditions in CBT.
