Climate Change presents an existential threat to the mental health and well-being of the clients we work with. It also impacts upon our communities, organisations and ourselves. It is a significant concern for a majority and a cause of distress to many.
This training event, organised by the Climate Change SIG, explores the importance of talking and reflecting on climate change in clinical, organisational and community settings to help people explore, reflect and make connections that will help both managing strong emotions and making behaviour change. Calling on ideas from CBT practice such as exploring values, considering change and setting positive goals, this workshop will increase participant’s confidence in raising issues and talking about climate change. Both presenters have contributed to the BABCP practice guide – Changing the Climate Conversation.
Following this event, participants will have;
· increased understanding of how climate narratives influence emotional wellbeing, motivation, and engagement.
· knowledge and skills of a hopeful, strengths-based approach to climate-related work with clients.
· explored how techniques such as values work, acceptance and workability can support individuals and communities in imagining and moving toward sustainable, life-enhancing futures.
· knowledge of a variety of forms of climate action including community-centred initiatives
· confidence in integrating positive, inclusive climate narratives (e.g., solarpunk, grassroots initiatives) into therapeutic conversations.
