The easiest way to become an accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist (CBP) is to study on one of our accredited courses.
Our accredited courses are delivered by (or have been validated by) a higher education institution. These are regularly assessed for quality and curriculum standards, with each course reaccredited every five years.
Entry requirements vary, so check directly with each course provider.
Accredited Course Levels
These courses meet some or most of our Minimum Training Standards (MTS). Each course will outline which requirements it covers, so you can top up any missing elements separately.
These courses fully meet all MTS requirements. Graduating from a Level 2 course makes you eligible to apply for accreditation. Some courses offer funded or commissioned places, while others allow students to self-fund their training.
Types of Level 2 courses
NHS Talking Therapies
This government initiative trains mental health practitioners through High Intensity CBT courses. These courses are Level 2 accredited, follow the NHS Talking Therapies National Curriculum, and are offered by universities in England.
All places are fully-funded trainee positions within the NHS, advertised on the NHS Jobs website. Application windows are often short, so check with individual course providers for upcoming opportunities.
Children & Young People’s (CYP) CBT Pathway
Some CYP training courses are accredited at Level 2, but not all – please check before applying. Accredited courses are listed under their university names in our Level 2 Accredited Courses Directory.
Evidence-Based Parent training (EBPT)
EBPT is another training pathway that may be available as part of certain Level 2 accredited courses.
