Can I get accredited if I train online?

Our Accredited Courses are high-quality courses that meet most or all of our Minimum Training Standards (MTS). If you’re considering CBT training elsewhere, make sure the course meets our criteria – specifically how it is taught, what is taught, the qualifications of the instructors, and the level of academic study, which is at postgraduate level validated by a higher education institution.

Eligible Online Training Requirements

Therapeutic training is all about developing strong interpersonal skills, which is why we require that at least 80% of training be face-to-face and interactive. While we understand the need for flexibility, online training can meet this requirement, provided it meets the following criteria:

  • Live sessions (not recorded)
  • Opportunities for discussion and Q&A
  • Small group work for deeper engagement
  • Skills development through demonstrations and role play
  • A balance of theory and skills training (50:50 ratio)

Remote Therapy Guidelines for Accreditation

Remote sessions (video/phone) count toward the 200 hours of CBT clinical practice required for Accreditation.

Some things to consider in providing remote therapy. You should:

  • adapt therapeutic interventions appropriately for remote delivery
  • ensure proper consent, security and data protection measures
  • maintain regular live supervision requirements

While remote sessions can be more easily recorded and shared, discuss the most appropriate supervision approach with both your supervisor and clients.

There is a more detailed guidance to online provision of CBT guidelines in the Resources Hub.
