Strategy 2025 – 2028

Our strategy for 2025 – 2028 was co-created with stakeholders of BABCP to set the direction for the Association.

We have been mindful to set challenging but achievable goals and to be transparent about progress, which will be reported in our Annual Reports, and in specific messaging with our members.

Although it’s been a major task to create this strategy, we acknowledge the work is just beginning. In the following areas we will continue to engage and write specific plans:

  • Digital transformation – to better serve members, and create better channels for them to speak with each other
  • Equity, diversity and inclusion – both in making CBT more accessible but also career paths into the profession
  • Five nations planning – to ensure that we have tailored approaches for the four UK nations and Republic of Ireland
  • Sustainability – to be part of the solution to tackling climate change
  • Voice of lived experience – to make sure that the future of CBT is influenced by people who have received it

Our Purpose

Protecting the public and supporting our members.

Our Mission

We will support the development of CBT, and those who deliver it, to improve the mental health of people across the UK and Ireland.

Our Values

  • Caring

What Caring means to us:

It means we will: Protect the public by making sure our members’ practice is safe and ethical; Be kind and thoughtful with our members and other stakeholders; Take pride in our work and see things through; Remember that we are here to promote mental health and wellbeing

It means we won’t: Hide behind process; Be a faceless bureaucracy; Take too long to respond when people contact us; Ignore the fact that different people have different needs and preferences

  • Innovative

What Innovative means to us:

It means we will: Speak boldly about CBT and its benefits; Promote research and champion new ideas and ways of helping people; Note the importance of growing with a purpose, and not pursuing growth for its own sake; Generate value for money for our members

It means we won’t: Seek to make money, other than to reinvest in things that benefit our members or the wider public; Invest in things that are not sustainable or cause environmental damage; Be risk averse in our communications

  • Inclusive

What Inclusive means to us:

It means we: See diversity as a strength; Will make our systems as simple as they can be; Will become more accessible to people with different needs; Put effort and resources into reaching out to the public; Will value our volunteers

It means we won’t: Assume people think the same way we do; Accept that what works for most people is always right for everyone; Write and talk in a way the public can’t understand; Believe we can solve all problems centrally

  • Principled

What Principled means to us:

It means we: Set and uphold standards, based on evidence; Will learn from mistakes, and share that learning; Will do what we said we would do, when we said we would do it; Will work hard to ensure that we are fair, and seen to be fair, to members and other stakeholders

It means we won’t: Put organisational needs before those of the public or our members; Make decisions behind closed doors; Be unwilling to explain our decisions

Our Aims

  • To protect the public

  • To support our members

  • To uphold the integrity of CBT

  • To promote CBT
