About PWP Registration

BABCP promotes the safe and effective delivery of CBT principles and therapy skills. PWPs are specially trained to work with people who have common mental health problems such as anxiety disorders and depression, to support them in managing their recovery.

Please reference the PWP Best Practice Guide [PDF], published by University College London.

PWP registration is currently for those applicants who have graduated from a British Psychological Society (BPS) Accredited PWP training course or apprenticeship.

What is PWP Registration and who is it for?

We hold a register of individual PWPs who commit to maintaining high quality standards in clinical practice, supervision and continuing professional development, and to adhering to our Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics.

The PWP Register is part of the Wellbeing Practitioner section of the public CBT Register UK. This includes PWP members and accredited BABCP and AREBT members. The aim of the Register is to protect the public, employers and other agencies by helping them find therapists who have met our required standards. The Register will display your name, location, and BABCP membership number.

We will register Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners who have successfully completed a BPS training programme or apprenticeship. The British Psychological Society (BPS) offers and upholds training standards which ensure PWPs have gained assessment and treatment skills under supervision.

Our registrants must also be working within a specified system of care that ensures the right pathways of referral on/stepping up and good clinical governance; such as an Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) service.

Why Register with BABCP?

Our Register of PWPs is the first step in a range of new developments to formally recognise practitioners delivering Low Intensity cognitive behavioural interventions.

PWPs are at the forefront of a number of emerging new professional groups who are applying cognitive behavioural principles in exciting and innovative ways.

We have collaborated in supporting the development of IAPT services in England since they began and have played an active role in raising the profile of PWPs. We offer CPD and an active Low Intensity Practice Special Interest Group. In addition to the Register of PWPs, we are committed to representing and supporting this dynamic workforce which has been developing for over ten years.

Our recognition of practitioners delivering Low Intensity cognitive behavioural principles will initially be open to Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners only.

Our ambition is to form and develop an active community of groups using cognitive behavioural principles across the United Kingdom. We aim to expand our recognition of these emerging professions, which are revolutionising our approach to the delivery of psychological therapies in a number of specialist areas.

Raising and promoting standards across the workforces currently delivering cognitive behavioural principles protects the public by promoting effective and competent practice. Working in partnership with our members, we are passionate about supporting and representing workforces using cognitive behavioural principles.

Our Standards of Conduct

All members agree to abide by our Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics. Complaints about members who may have breached these can be made using the complaints and disciplinary process.
