Synopsis
This follow up workshop aims to help Low Intensity clinicians who have not accessed the long term conditions top up training to feel more confident in assessing long term conditions clients and helping them to access the right evidence based treatment for their presenting problem. The workshop will be centred around the adult population rather than children's due to the evidence base, however Children’s Wellbeing Practitioners and Education Mental Health Practitioners are welcome to book on as the content may be relevant in the context of work with parents.
Around 30% of people with a long term condition will experience a comorbid mental health problem, this is much higher than the statistics for the general population. This rises when we consider people with medically unexplained symptoms such as irritable bowel syndrome and chronic fatigue syndrome to around 70% also experience comorbid anxiety and/or depression.
The training will discuss CBT assessment and adaptations to CBTtreatment for people living with long term physical health conditions, itwill also consider the protected characteristic of disability and accessibility within psychological services.
The workshop aims to:
•Consider how to adapt assessments to best cater to the needs of long term conditions clients
•Develop confidence in assessing long term conditions clients and getting these people into the right evidence based treatments for their current needs
