Synopsis
This workshop is aimed at clinicians practicing CBT who are looking to improve their skills at working with chronic pain patients. Often chronic pain patients can be hard to engage with due to the physical/health co-morbidities and complex psych-social factors. Also, chronic pain patients often present with significant amounts of ambivalence to change, and demoralised due to previous failed physical treatments. This workshop aims to help clinicians learn new skills to improve rapport building with patients and learn how to deal effectively with ambivalence/resistance to change and improve patient motivation.

The attendees will learn about a trans-diagnostic approach which can be applied to people of all backgrounds and protected identities and is highly applicable to a variety of clinical settings.

CBT is seen as one of the psychological treatments of choice in the treatment of chronic pain, as per NICE guidelines. TEAM-CBT is based on the work of David Burns (a pioneer in CBT since the 1970s) and is an exciting new innovation in CBT clinical practice.
