CBT in the time of COVID-19: Delivering Evidence-Based Treatment to Diverse Populations

28-30 April 2021

The theme of last year’s Spring Workshop and Conference programmne - Living with Uncertainty – was certainly well chosen. We had expected the focus to be on understanding how and why uncertainty increases the risk of mental health difficulties and on the impact of uncertainty in the context of specific adversities. One year later we are all still Living with Uncertainty in the specific context of COVID-19. Therefore this year’s Spring Workshop and Conference programme focuses on how we, as CBT therapists, continue to work with and alongside the impact of COVID-19.

As we cannot yet organise a face-to-face conference, we will run the whole of the spring conference online over three days. We had hoped to return to a “live” in person meeting at Kings College in April 2021 but by December 2020 it was clear that we would have to wait a bit longer before a “normal conference and workshop service could resume”. The success we had running some of the spring and summer workshops online from last years cancelled events and the one-day virtual conference that replaced the annual conference in Cardiff has shown us that this way of sharing new clinical and scientific work is very popular.

BABCP members have risen creatively to the many challenges and consequences of COVID-19. To acknowledge this work, to learn and to share ideas about best practice, this theme of this Spring Conference is “CBT in the time of COVID-19”. Although the acute effects of COVID-19 will gradually end, the effect of the pandemic will affect people psychologically and physically for many years to come so there is still much for us to achieve and to learn.
