Senior Lecturer in Mental Health (CBT)

Permanent – Fulltime

Salary:UH8 - £42,155 pa to £53,353 pa dependent on skills and experience (pro rata for part time).

The School of Health and Social Work, at the University of Hertfordshire, is seeking to enhance its highly successful BABCP accredited programmes by recruiting a Programme Leader/Senior Lecturer to join the expert academic team. The School has a long-established reputation as a centre for excellence for healthcare education. Our vision is to transform lives through our education, research and community engagement activities. The provision of high-quality mental health related programmes, including CBT and IAPT, is central to this vision.

Main duties & responsibilities

You will work within the mental health team of the Department of Nursing, Health & Wellbeing, to undertake planning, teaching, assessment and evaluation of programmes of learning related to CBT, including IAPT (and to teach on other appropriate programmes as required).

You will be expected to engage in scholarly and research activity, promote and maintain the policy of equal opportunities and participate in other academic activities within the School and University. You will be required to teach and develop the curriculum within designated modules and have the potential to contribute to our short courses. You will perform administrative and quality assurance duties and will contribute to Programme Development teams, examination boards and the monitoring and review panels as appropriate. In addition to this you will represent CBT/mental health both locally and nationally and will contribute to departmental activities and national networks.

Skills and experience needed

You will have proven experience of delivering high quality CBT approaches as a BABCP accredited therapist. You will also have experience of providing supervision related to CBT. You will have complex interpersonal skills, particularly in written and verbal communication. You will also have a high standard of negotiation and facilitation skills.

Qualifications required

You will hold a degree and Masters (or equivalent) in a subject relevant to mental health. You will be accredited with BABCP as a psychotherapist.

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) 

Our commitment to the University’s Safeguarding Policy, requires that the recruitment of staff in this area, will need to undertake the minimum of a Basic DBS Check. In the course of our work and University-led activities, there may be external or other contractual obligations where a further Enhanced Check is required. DBS Checks may require renewal in line with policy. 

Overseas applicants and UK applicants who have lived abroad 

Successful applicants who have lived outside the UK, for 12 months or more (whether continuously or in total), in the last 10 years, will be required to produce a ‘Certificate of Good Character/Conduct’ from each of those countries.
