The University Staff Counselling Centre is excited to have the opportunity to recruit a highly experienced and motivated Senior Counsellor to join our Senior Management Team, 11 Staff Counsellors and three Administrators. We provide a wide variety of mental health services including: time limited counselling (8-10 sessions); wellbeing and psycho-educational workshops; reflective practice groups; training events and conferences. We are a well-respected department within the University, focused on providing high quality, accessible mental health support for University Staff (of which there are 11,500).

The successful candidate will have a post-graduate level counselling/psychotherapy/CBT/clinical or counselling psychologist qualification, (full accreditation as a counsellor/psychotherapist with BACP, UKCP, BABCP, BPC, or as a clinical or counselling psychologist with BPS or HCPC is essential), as well as extensive experience of individual counselling within an organisational or institutional context, preferably Further Education or Higher Education. They will have proven experience and a demonstrable ability to lead and motivate staff within a counselling service.

The post holder will be committed to the delivery, development and improvement of mental health services at the Centre. They will hold significant line management responsibilities as well as delivering one-to one counselling. They will be an effective communicator with confident IT skills. There will be opportunities for creativity, innovation, and leadership within particular areas of responsibility and in the development of new projects. They will share responsibility for managing the waiting list and all related tasks with the Senior Management Team. As an organisational member of the BACP we expect the post-holder to work to the highest professional, legal and ethical standards in accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework

The University Staff Counselling Centre is currently operating on a hybrid basis, combining remote working and working from our building. The post-holder will be required to work a minimum of three days in the building each week. Working from home will be dependent on access to a secure environment in which all information and communication will be managed in a confidential manner at all times. We are currently offering in-person, remote video or telephone appointments. Service delivery will continue to be reviewed in line with the University's Health and Safety guidance.
