This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a developing team in Hastings and Rother, East Sussex where the mental health needs of children and young people are at the centre of our service.

MHSTs will serve clusters of schools, providing a high quality and responsive mental health services to children and young people and their parents/carers, in accordance with Children and Young People’s Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (CYP-IAPT) principles. You will also provide training and support to school staff, helping to embed whole-school approaches to mental health.

The Senior Mental Health Practitioner will focus on providing day to day clinical and supervisory support for the Education Mental Health Practitioners (EMHPs). The role will be working alongside community partners and developing relationships between the new MHST and educational settings.

You are responsible for supporting the development of the MHSTs and embedding their services within educational settings across Hastings and Rother. The postholder maintains a caseload, delivers group interventions and screens/co-ordinates allocations and line managers Education Mental Health Practitioners (EMHPs).

You will need to have:

  • A core professional qualification relevant to mental health e.g. nursing with specialism in mental health or learning disability nursing, Occupational Therapy, Social Work, Educational Psychology.
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Desirable but not essential - Qualification in supervision, or willingness to commence if successful
  • Registration with a relevant Professional body.

There is the opportunity for the Senior Mental Health Practitioner to complete supervisor training at the University of Sussex as part of the role. (19 days and any additional CPD days if relevant) - please see Sussex University website.
