There are two levels at which BABCP accredits courses providing CBT training: Graduates of Level 1 courses will have met most of the Minimum Training Standards (MTS) – the criteria for practitioner accreditation - whereas Graduates of Level 2 courses will have met all of the MTS.
You may undertake either a Level 1 or a Level 2 course. You don’t need to do both.
A level 2 course provides all the necessary training so that on graduation from Level 2 courses, individuals will have received the training required to fulfil all of the BABCP's Minimum Training Standards (MTS).
Level 2 course graduates do not need to be in clinical practice at the time of application as they can apply as soon as they have finished their course and the University has informed BABCP they have passed. However, it is expected that they are intending to start an appropriately supervised CBT practice in accordance with the BABCP Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics within six months of their application.
Graduates of these courses apply for accreditation using a Level 2 Application form.
A list of CBT courses that have successfully achieved level 2 accreditation can be found here:
BABCP Level 2 Accredited Courses
All level 1 accredited courses will meet the BABCP's quality of training criteria ie. the quality of the training delivered and CBT qualifications of the trainers.
The amount of the MTS met by level 1 accredited courses will vary from course to course. Examples of the area of variation include quantity of teaching hours, case studies, and clinical practice hours required.
This means that graduates of Level 1 courses will have met some but not all of the MTS. Each level 1 accredited course should, upon request, produce a statement detailing how much of the MTS the course meets, so that any requirements to Íštop upÍ› in the areas referred to above, can be assessed by the enquirer.
Graduates of Level 1 courses, as well as non-accredited courses will apply using a Practitioner application form.
These applicants will also need to demonstrate that they are continuing to practice CBT, are receiving appropriate CBT supervision of this work, that they will engage in appropriate CBT CPD and that they will adhere to the BABCP Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics.
