Anti- Racism Special Interest Group formerly known as Equality & Culture Special Interest Group

This special interest group is open to all BABCP members who would like to be part of a network passionate about putting racial equity at the forefront. Our focus is on global majority populations; this encapsulates asylum seekers, refugees, Gypsy Roma, and travelling communities. With due consideration for intersectionality inclusive of faith/religious and socio-economic factors.

We continually encourage and support our members with sharing their experiences, from writing about cultural adaptations to CBT and developments in services to reduce racial health inequalities. The SIG committee hold different experiences and bring a breadth of knowledge and personal experiences to their roles.

Aims

To promote anti-racist practice by:

  • working for racial equity, cultural competence, cultural humility, cultural safety and diversity in CBT practice, training, and research
  • Provide a forum where issues of racial equity, cultural competence, cultural humility, cultural safety, and diversity can be discussed and explored in a safe environment
  • Facilitate spaces where members can highlight issues of racism, discrimination within teams, services, and clinical practice
  • Organise training focused on raising the standards of culturally competent and culturally safe CBT delivery
  • Support BABCP members to develop and share best practice for working inclusively with service users from different global majority backgrounds; development of culturally sensitive and adapted CBT practice and training in Low- and Middle-Income Countries; development of cross-cultural models of CBT practice and training. To improve dissemination of empirical recommendations into implementation within services.
  • Increase understanding of the barriers to services and promote equity of access, improve experience and outcomes for racially minoritised populations.
