What if I took a non-accredited Course?

If your CBT training was not on a BABCP accredited course, or if you trained abroad, you may still be able to become accredited. You must currently be in CBT practice in the UK, its territories or Ireland for at least 12 months in the last three years to apply. 

Here are the steps you should take to work out if you can apply -

• Check if you have a Core Profession, or if you need to complete a KSA.
• Consult the Minimum Training Standards (MTS) and the Accreditation as a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist Accreditation Guidelines and work out if you can meet the criteria. 
• Check if your training course meets our criteria - it must be based in or validated by a university. It will be at least Level 11 in Scotland, Level 7 in England, Northern Ireland and Wales and Level 9 in Ireland. At least 100 of your taught CBT hours must come from a course which meets these credentials. 
• If you had some online training – check if it meets the criteria laid out here.
• We need to know that your training covers the Core Curriculum - the expected content of core training in Cognitive and Behavioural Therapies. 
• Top up your training if you need to
• Once you meet all the criteria, apply using a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist Accreditation Application Form.
