Aaron T Beck was a great friend of the BABCP. In 1998 he was awarded BABCP’s first overseas Honorary Fellowship in recognition of his close association and the support he gave to BABCP. This continued until his passing on 1st November and his legacy will continue to inspire us. So many key figures in our organisation benefitted from his pioneering ideas in the field of mental health, as clinicians, supervisors and researchers. His ideas laid and developed the foundations for what can fairly controversially be called the most important ideas about alleviating mental ill health. He was a tireless disseminator of his ideas and took the time to encourage and advise new developments that came from them. Those who knew him spoke of his kindness, his warmth and his good humour and a great many of the people who have gone on to shape mental health care internationally have done so thanks to his training and encouragement.
The BABCP sends our condolences to his daughter Judith who continues the peerless legacy of her father, to his wider family and to all his friends around the world who will be feeling the loss of such a key figure
