   Supervisor and Trainer Accreditation

Accreditation as a CBP Supervisor and/or Trainer with the BABCP is for those who are senior and experienced CBP Practitioners who also provide significant CBP Supervision and/or Training

In order to be eligible for Supervisor and/or Trainer Accreditation, the applicant:

A. must have been Fully Accredited as a Practitioner for at least three years, in which case their application is made using Route A, which includes a simultaneous application for Practitioner Re-accreditation to bring future Re-accreditation dates into line, or

B. must be able to demonstrate that they have met the criteria for Full Accreditation for at least three years, and make their application via Route B, which includes a simultaneous application for Full Accreditation in Conjunction with Supervisor and/or Trainer Accreditation

Applications may be made for joint Practitioner with Supervisor and Trainer, or Practitioner with Supervisor or Trainer individually

Practitioner, Supervisor and/or Trainer Accreditation is for a period of five years, after which Accredited members will be required to apply for Re-accreditation every five years

CRITERIA FOR PRACTITIONER, SUPERVISOR AND/OR TRAINER ACCREDITATION

 The following eight criteria must be met in order to gain Supervisor and/or Trainer Accreditation:

  1. Be Fully Accredited with the BABCP as a CBP Practitioner (Route A), or eligible for Full Accreditation (Route B)

  2. Demonstrate a minimum of three years CBP practice since achieving eligibility for Full Accreditation as a CBP Practitioner

  3. Be a dedicated CBP Practitioner

  4. Have treated a significant number of clients from a spectrum of complexity and a variety of problem areas using CBP, under regular CBP Supervision

  5. Be receiving regular Clinical Supervision from an expert and dedicated CBP Supervisor, and have appropriate Supervision and support for CBP Supervisory and/or Training Practice

  6. Evidence ongoing Continuing Professional Development in skills and theory in CBP which includes professional development as a Practitioner, Supervisor and/or Trainer in CBP

  7. Be providing regular specialist CBP Supervision and/or Training

  8. Sign a statement of intent to submit an application for Re-accreditation as a CBP Practitioner, Supervisor and/or Trainer in 5 years, and to sustained commitment to the theory and  practice of Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy, Supervisory Practice, and/or Training Practice,  which includes Continuing Professional Development, and ongoing Clinical Supervision in  all relevant areas


GENERAL NOTES ON MAKING AN APPLICATION FOR PRACTITIONER, SUPERVISOR AND/OR TRAINER ACCREDITATION

All applications must be presented on the most up to date forms relating to Practitioner, Supervisor and/or Trainer Accreditation. Please ensure you check with the BABCP Office, or check the Accreditation section of the BABCP website, to ensure you have the most up to date forms, information, criteria and guidelines; your application will be returned to you if you submit information on incorrect forms, and you may incur additional fees if your application cannot be processed by the Accreditors because of insufficient detail and supporting information

For those applying for Supervisor Accreditation (alone or jointly with Trainer)

  • Supervisory Reference (for completion and submission) - this must be completed by an experienced and dedicated CBP Practitioner who provides Supervision or support of your CBP Supervisory Practice. This document should be completed and signed within three months prior to your application submission.

  • Supervisee's Feedback Report (for completion and submission) - a minimum of two of these must be completed by current or recent Supervisees. These documents should be completed and signed within two years prior to your application submission.

For those applying for Trainer Accreditation (alone or jointly with Supervisor)

  • Trainer Reference (for completion and submission) - this must be completed by an experienced and dedicated CBP Practitioner who knows or provides Supervision or support of your current CBP Training Practice. This document should be completed and signed within three months prior to your application submission.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Can I be accredited as just a CBT supervisor (but not a trainer)?

  • Yes.
  • Can I be accredited as just a CBT trainer (but not a supervisor)?

  •  Yes.
  • Do I need to be accredited as a CBT practitioner in order to apply for accreditation as a supervisor/trainer?

  • If you are not currently accredited with BABCP as a CBT practitioner, you will need to apply for this type of accreditation at the same time as you apply for supervisor/trainer accreditation. The necessary documents are downloadable (see ‘Guide to Applying') There is an additional fee for this. Please see the Accreditation fees page
  •  I have been Practitioner Accredited for less than 3 years can I still apply for Supervisor or Trainer Accreditation

If you have been Practitioner Accredited for less than 3 years you will need to wait until the 3 year period has been achieved
              

  • Which documents do I need to complete?

  • All applicants must complete the Application form and the Reference (as a Supervisor/Trainer). In addition, if you are applying for Supervisor Accreditation you must submit at least two examples of completed Supervisee's feedback forms. If you are also applying for Practitioner Accreditation, you must submit a Practitioner Application form and two Practitioner Reference forms. 
  • What evidence do I need?

  • You need to supply evidence of CPD relevant to CBT supervision and/or training. You also need to provide quantitative and qualitative evidence regarding some of the supervision and/or training you have given. If applying for practitioner accreditation, we require evidence of qualifications and all CBT CPD over the past three years.
  • What counts as evidence?

  • Certificates of attendance. Written feedback from the recipients on the quality of CBT supervision/training and CBT teaching timetables also count.
  • What counts as CBT clinical supervision?

  • Individual or group settings. Recipients can be at introductory, intermediate or advanced levels or on training courses. The key factor is whether the supervision was primarily CBT in orientation.
  • What counts as CBT training?

  • Any formal CBT teaching, whether theoretical or practical. Again, it does not matter who receives it, as long as its focus is principally CBT.
  • How many hours supervision/training do I need to do?

  • The minimum requirement for accreditation as a CBT supervisor is the provision of 80 hours supervision over the past two years. For accreditation as a CBT trainer, it is a minimum of 40 hours over the past two years.
  • How much will it cost?

  • The fees for applications can be seen on the Accreditation fees page. There is also an annual administration fee and website subscriptions are extra.
  • How long will it take to process my application?

  • It should take no longer than three months. If there are any queries or concerns you will be contacted directly. This may slow the process.
  • Can my accreditation as a CBT supervisor/trainer be listed on the BABCP website?

  • This will be available soon.
  • When do I have to seek re-accreditation?

  • As with practitioner accreditation, you will need to apply for re-accreditation after five years. During this period you will need to continue to meet the necessary criteria for accreditation, e.g. for CPD.
  • What happens if my application is unsuccessful?

  • It will be made clear how you can rectify this, prior to re-applying. You can avoid the need for this by carefully examining the criteria before applying (see ‘Guidelines for Applying')
