Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP) Accreditation

Special Notice
ROUTE A is for those applicants who have graduated from an IAPT Accredited PWP training course, and is currently the only route available. Routes B and C will be launched in the future.
If your IAPT PWP training course is not yet Accredited, you may still make your application for Accreditation. If your application is successful, you will be awarded Provisional Accreditation, and will be automatically awarded Full Accreditation when your course achieves Accreditation.
Accreditation as a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner with the BABCP means that the Entry Criteria and Minimum Training Standards for PWP Accreditation have been achieved.
PWP Accreditation is for a period of three years, after which Accredited members will be required to apply for Re-accreditation every three years.
Criteria For PWP Accreditation
The following SEVEN criteria must be met in order to gain PWP Accreditation:
Have been accountable for their own professional practice to a senior member of the IAPT service whilst working as a PWP continuously for the last 6 months
Provide satisfactory evidence of specialist or equivalent training as a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner which meets the PWP Minimum Training Standards
Demonstrate at least 80 hours of direct PWP clinical practice
Demonstrate at least 25 hours of Clinical Skills Supervision and 25 hours of Clinical Case Management Supervision
Sign a statement of intent to submit an application for Re-accreditation in 3 years, and to sustained commitment to the theory and practice of PWP working, which includes Continuing Professional Development, and ongoing Clinical Skills Supervision and Case Management Supervision
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the therapeutic relationship and competence in the development, maintenance and ending of such relationships
Adhere to the BABCP Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics in the Practice of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies, and be willing to be scrutinised in this adherence as required
Routes For PWP Accreditation
There are three Routes to PWP Accreditation; Routes A, B and C:
ROUTE A – for those PWPs who have graduated from an IAPT Accredited Low Intensity (PWP) training course
ROUTE B – for those who have sufficient previous training and have completed an IAPT Accredited PWP top-up training
NOT YET AVAILABLE
ROUTE C - for those who were already practicing in a role similar to that of the PWP before September 2009 and already undertaken a training equivalent or similar to an IAPT Accredited PWP full training, for example GMHW (equivalent to a grandparenting scheme)

General Notes on Making an Application For PWP Accreditation
All applications must be presented on the most up to date forms relating to PWP Accreditation. Please ensure you check with the BABCP Office, or check the Accreditation section of the BABCP website, to ensure you have the most up to date forms, information, criteria and guidelines
Forms and documents required for information purposes or completion are:
- Criteria and Guidelines for PWP Accreditation (for information purposes)
- PWP Minimum Training Standards (for information purposes) NOT YET AVAILABLE
- Application for PWP Accreditation (for completion and submission) – you must complete ALL relevant sections of the form, and it should be signed within one month prior to receipt at the BABCP office
- PWP Supervisor’s Report (for completion and submission) – this must be completed by your current Clinical Skills Supervisor. This document should be completed and signed within one month prior to your application submission. Also see PWP Supervisor’s Report SAMPLE
