Re-Accreditation
Criteria for Re-Accreditation as a Cognitive and/or Behavioural Psychotherapist
To be re-accredited applicants must fulfil the following five criteria:-
- Continue to be professionally registered and accountable within a core profession - or provide a satisfactory explanation for no longer being registered within a core profession.
- Continue to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the therapeutic relationship and competence in the development, maintenance and ending of such relationships.
- Show evidence of sustained commitment to the theory and practice of Behavioural and/or Cognitive Psychotherapy which includes Continuing Professional Development.
- Have on-going C/BT clinical supervision.
- Adhere to the Guidelines for Good Practice of the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies and be willing to be scrutinised in this adherence as required.
Re accreditation is required within a period of five years from initial accreditation and is for a further period of five years.

When completing your Log Books please bear in mind the following :
- Criterion 5 (Accreditation) and Criterion 3 (Re-accreditation) requires that you - show evidence of sustained commitment to the theory and practice of Behavioural and/or Cognitive Psychotherapy which includes Continuing Professional Development
- Please ensure therefore that you
- ATTEND WORKSHOPS AND COURSES FOR YOUR OWN BENEFIT NOT JUST AS A LECTURER/TEACHER.
- The committee look for a balance of attendance at symposia/lectures/ conferences/seminars, and skills based workshops/courses, as well as provision of any of these, for a minimum of 30 hours per year. You additionally need to show reading of relevant CBT books and journals and any publications in CBT.
- Attendance at ‘management meetings' or providing supervision or carrying out your normal day to day clinical work are not counted as your own continued professional development in Behavioural and/or Cognitive Psychotherapy.
Whilst a balance of the above is required, you do not necessarily have to have PROVIDED training/lectures, publication or research.
Members wanting further copies of the CPD or Supervision log books can download these. Completed log books are required when applying for re-accreditation every five years and may be inspected at any time by the Accreditation & Registration Committee during periodic audits.
