Home-based, working peripatetically to cover Cornwall and attend Naval Service Recovery Centre (NSRC Plymouth)

The role of the Psychological Wellbeing Adviser is to provide psychological wellbeing support to our beneficiaries, including veterans and their families, working peripatetically to cover the Devon area. This will include a wide range of approaches and interventions including assessment, advice, information, referral, short-term one to one support via phone or face to face, delivering psycho-education groups throughout the area with emphasis on promoting mindfulness and compassion based approaches and other non-clinical psychological interventions including therapeutic mentoring on Recovery Centre activities. The post holder will also be expected to assess beneficiaries need and assist the Recovery Centre to support beneficiaries with mental health difficulties. Liaison with the Recovery Centre multi-disciplinary team and external statutory and voluntary sector agencies will also be required to ensure excellent support for beneficiaries with mental health and/or wellbeing needs.

In 2016-2017, we are offering a Postgraduate Certificate in Transformational Leadership, a Postgraduate Certificate in Enhanced Evidence Based Practice, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Systemic Family Practice. In 2017-18 we will also offer a PG Dip in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and intend to develop additional CYP IAPT programmes.

The counsellor will provide therapeutic support for a range of issues, including anxiety, depression, panic disorder, issues affecting academic performance and additional complex presenting problems. Accredited individual membership of the BABCP or equivalent is essential, together with at least one year’s supervised post-qualifying experience, preferably in an organisational setting.
